CBAsia 2015 Hawaii workshop

In March 2015, we had a successful meeting in Hawaii, USA for learning about the practice of consensus building on energy issues in Hawaii. The State of Hawaii aims for 70% of its energy coming from clean sources by 2030, under its Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative. In the morning of March 23rd, we had a meeting with senior executives to learn about the stakeholder processes for developing such an ambitious goals, as well as the challenges behind achieving the goal. In the afternoon, we visited the Kahuku wind farm in the North Shore region of O'ahu Island and learned about its community liaison efforts. On 24th, we visited the Island of Hawaii (big island) to visit Puna Geothermal Venture's geothermal power plant and learned about the challenges of working with communities from its manager and local public officers. On 25th, we met Hawaii's leading practitioners of consensus building. In the wrap-up part of the workshop, we discussed our unique challenges in the field of renewable energy in Asia. We also decided to organize three subsequent CBAsia workshops in Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan in 2015 and 2016!
